Information

Insurance research is interdisciplinary with the main focus on economics, law and mathematics. The University of Mannheim is one of the few universities in Germany who dispose of the corresponding faculties. The cooperation of the specialists is institutionalised in the Institute of Insurance Sciences at the University of Mannheim whereby the Chair of Risk Theory, Portfolio Management and Insurance represents the division 1 (Versicherungsbetriebslehre).

The institute is financed by the Society for the advancement of Insurance Science at the University of Mannheim.

The Institute of Insurance Science encourage the interdisciplinarity of the single disciplines relevant to insurance, cultivates the contact to the insurance industry, supports research projects and organises scientifique events. A list with the publications of the institute can you find here. In den first quarter of every year a congress takes place which is not only open to the members of the society but also to any other person interested in insurance. The lectures held at the congress are published by Prof. Dr. P. Albrecht, Prof. Dr. Hans-Jochen Bartels and Prof. Dr. Oliver Brand, LL.M. in the Institute's own publication series "Mannheimer Vorträge zur Versicherungswissenschaft" (publishing house: Verlag Versicherungswirtschaft, Karlsruhe).
