The Institute of Insurance Sciences

Insurance research is interdisciplinary with the main focus on economics, law and mathematics. The University of Mannheim is one of the few universities in Germany that offers all these disciplines to its students and researchers in three different schools. The cooperation of the specialists is institutionalized in the Institute of Insurance Sciences at the University of Mannheim whereby the Chair of Risk Theory, Portfolio Management and Insurance represents division 1 (Versicherungsbetriebslehre).

The institute is financed by the Society for the Advancement of Insurance Science at the University of Mannheim.

The Institute of Insurance Science encourages the interdisciplinarity of the single disciplines relevant to insurance, cultivates the contact to the insurance industry, supports research projects and organizes scientific events. You can find a list with the publications of the institute here. Every year, a congress takes place which is not only open to the members of the society but also to anyone interested in insurance. The lectures held at the congress are published by Prof. Dr. P. AlbrechtProf. Dr. Hans-Jochen Bartels and Prof. Dr. Oliver Brand, LL.M. in the Institute's own publication series "Mannheimer Conference Proceedings on Risk Theory, Portfolio Management and Insurance" (Verlag Versicherungswirtschaft, Karlsruhe).
